Kimberly Compass found guilty of 1st-degree murder in death of 2-year-old son
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Kimberly Compass has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old son Zayden Jaynesahkluah.
Zayden died of methadone poisoning at a south Wichita motel. The jury started deliberations after closing arguments Monday morning.
Compass did not take the stand in her own defense last week, but she did speak out after Monday’s conviction, blaming her son’s death on Reginald “Reggie” Whiters, the man who was with her at the time of Zayden’s death.
‘Who do I need to ask the question about Reginald Whiters (murdering) my son? You guys convicted me? I just need to know who I need to talk to about that because I don’t think this is fair,” Campass said.
Cmpass started pleading her case moments after the judge announced the guilty verdict. Family of Zayden’s father also got emotional after the verdict, but for different reasons. With tears in his eyes, Zayden’s father said he feels that his son finally has justice.
“I had a lot of people say they hoped that she had gotten the death penalty. I just hope she spends every day of her life knowing my son is not here because of her,” he said. “I know the prison is living death and I hope that she gets every single second.”
Compass left the courtroom in handcuffs and begged family to take care of her daughter.
Sentencing for Compass is set for Aug. 12.
