(KWCH) - Memorial Day commemorates those in the country’s armed forces who died in the line of duty. While several public and private agencies and businesses may be closed, several events are being held across Kansas in honor of the fallen.

Memorial Weekend Musical Campout

Friday, May 28-Monday, May 31, 2021

Winfield Fairgrounds, Building #11105 West 9th Avenue, Winfield, KS

Everyone is invited to join with musicians from the Wichita and surrounding area for a weekend of jamming this Memorial Day weekend. There will be camping and gathering at the Winfield Fairgrounds, playing tunes and remembering the life of Glenn Murphy who passed away this last December. The area below the grandstand has been reserved so we’ll be comfortable in case of inclement weather.

Memorial Day Weekend with the Friends of Oak Hill Cemetery

Friday, May 28-Monday, May 31, 2021 - 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence, KS

The Friends of Oak Hill Cemetery and youth volunteers from the Watkins Museum of History invite you to visit this historic cemetery during Memorial Day weekend. We’ll be present to provide flags and help locate veterans’ graves. This activity is made possible through the support of Lawrence Parks and Recreation.

Memorial Flag Planting

Saturday, May 29, 2021 - 8 a.m.

1560 S Topeka St, Wichita, KS

The flag planting will take place at two of Wichita’s oldest cemetery on the graves of veterans. This Memorial Day, Saturday 29th at Maple Grove Cemetery and Highland cemetery 1000, N. Hillside St. Volunteers will be gathering at the VFW post office 112 at 8 a.m. for instruction, coffee and donuts.

Memorial Day Weekend Tailgate Party & Military Appreciation Night!

Grab your family and celebrate Memorial Day weekend with your Salina Liberty and Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A) before our Military Appreciation Game against the Dodge City Law on Saturday, May 29th. Party starts at 3PM in the Tony’s Pizza Events Center parking lot!

Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy church in the park as Freedom Church holds a Memorial Day commemoration, concessions for lunch, and a shaved ice truck.

IAM District Lodge #70 field at I-235 and S. Meridian Avenue

To honor, celebrate and remember veterans this Memorial Day, the IAM District Lodge #70 field at I-235 and S. Meridian Ave. has been transformed into a sea of red, white and blue with 600 U.S. flags. Displayed from Sunday, May 16, through Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, the flags have been sponsored by area organizations and individuals to recognize those who have served our country.

Intrepid Brass Band Memorial Day Concert

Join Intrepid Brass for a Patriotic Brass Band Concert at 1pm on Memorial Day (Monday, May 31st) at the gazebo in Central Riverside Park! For those of you who don’t live in Wichita, tune in to the livestream! We will post a link here and on the Intrepid Brass page just prior to the performance.

Fire & Iron 54 Memorial Day Ride

Fire & Iron station 54 ride to the veterans memorial service in Winfield KS. Meet at QT1 at 8:00 a.m. KSU 8:30. Cookout to follow at the 54 Clubhouse, 2251 N Woodlawn, Wichita, KS 67220. $10 per person all you can eat.

Opti-Cares Memorial Day 5K

Monday, May 31, 2021 - 8 a.m.

Opti-Life Vitality Club + Spa, 9758 E. 21st St. N | Wichita, KS

The family-friendly 5K will benefit Opti-Cares Partner, Rainbows United, Inc. It will also be accompanied by a free Fun Run for kids under the age of 10, food trucks and family wellness activities. This event is open to the public. Registration ($25) includes race fees, Opti-Cares T-shirt, and medal. Opti-Life will donate 100% of the proceeds to Rainbows United to help families find the help they need under the rainbow.

Run to Remember

Monday, May 31, 2021 - 9 a.m.

Buffalo Park, 450 S. Maize, Wichita, KS

Participants are invited to wear blue in remembrance of our fallen military heroes, from the days of Vietnam to present day conflicts. Participation is FREE and open to all ages. Commit one mile or 13, no amount is too small or too much. The gathering will begin in the parking lot closest to the splash pad. Social distancing and masks are encouraged but not required. Bibs and bottled water will be provided. NO refreshments will bee served after the run/walk but participants are encouraged to stay and tell the stories of the heroes you are honoring.

Memorial Day Service

Greenwood Cemetery, Sedan, KS

The Memorial Day service will be at 10:00 a.m. under the Greenwood Cemetery shelter house.

Memorial Day Luncheon

Monday, May 31, 2021 - 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

First Christian Church Burrton, 201 S Burrton Ave, Burrton, KS

We will be hosting a Memorial Day luncheon at the church from 11 to 1. Ham and beans, and sloppy joes. Free will offering.

Memorial Day Ceremony

Fort Riley Post Cemetery

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor the fallen warriors who gave their lives in defense of our nation. Please join Col. Will McKannay, Fort Riley Garrison Commander, and others for a virtual ceremony, streamed live from the Fort Riley Post Cemetery.*** The ceremony/live stream will begin at 11:40 a.m. and will be broadcast from the Fort Riley Facebook page **
