WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Exploration Place is hosting its second Food Truck Thursday on June 10. There will be three food trucks, The ‘Berg, Ken and Barbie’z Rollin Diner, and U-Hungry Food Truck. There will also be music by Joe and Erika and Across the Pond.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. with the lighting at the Keeper of the Plains. It’s free for members. For non-members, the entrance fee is $15 per car for tickets purchased in advance and $20 per car at the gate. Exploration Place staff say lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged.

The ‘Berg Bus is one of the three food trucks that will be there. It’s run by two Wichita siblings, Mathias and Emmie Kriwiel. Their mom, Diane, says they used to have a trailer, and only put it in one spot for the day, but last summer they switched it over to a bus to be more mobile. Diane says the idea of the truck started as a way to get the kids out of the house during the summer. They have different flavors of snow cones and only have the bus open seasonally. Both teens say since they had to close during the pandemic, they are happy to be open again and excited to be part of a Food Truck Thursdays at Exploration Place.

”I think it is a big deal because it has been a year of isolation and not being able to go to friends or events. So, I think it is something people can look forward to because it is the beginning of summer, and summer is known for being able to spend your day outside,” said Mathias Kriwiel.

”I just think that it is fun and other people enjoy it. So it is good to see everyone happy, so I think when everyone is doing it it is good to see everyone normal and not so COVID,” said Emmie Kriwiel.

Another food truck that will be present, U-Hungry Truck. The truck has been in the Wichita area for 9 years. The owner and chef Arturo Ray has 52 items on the menu. That varies from salads to a catfish to shrimp to wings, tacos, sandwiches, burgers, and desserts. Ray says he runs the food truck with the help of his niece. He says he also had to close during a portion of the pandemic but he is happy to be open again. He says he is excited to offer his food at Exploration Place’s Food Truck Thursdays.

”Well, to be part of anything that goes on in the city of Wichita is wonderful. Lovely people, great fan base of dealing with the coalition. The people we do have that come out, it is just great. That is all I can say,” said Ray.
