WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Coaches and classmates at Campus High School are mourning the loss of 18-year-old Andrew Squire who died earlier this week. Squire was the manager for the Campus High School girls basketball team and he played for the Super Colts, the school’s special-needs team. Beyond his contributions on the court, the students and staff at Campus knew Squire to almost always have a smile on his face, daily spreading positivity in the halls. Those who knew Squire best say there are no words to explain how much he’ll be missed.

There was arguably no one who loved Campus High School and everyone in it as much as Squire.

“Andrew was one of the most infectious people to be around,” Campus High School boys basketball coach Chris Davis said. “He never had a bad day. There was always a smile on his face.”

Campus high school girls basketball coach Robbie Wright remembers the handshakes he’d get from Squire.

“...His hand was huge and he wrapped you up and gave you a hug,” Wright said.

Squire’s favorite place to be was on the court with his Super Colts teammates. But even more than playing, he loved helping others achieve their goals in his role as manager for the girls basketball team.

“Everything he did, he tried his hardest. He always brought 110 percent. He was at every practice, encouraging us,” Campus basketball player Tristin Smith said. “

At just 18, Squire died unexpectedly Sunday due to natural causes, just weeks after he graduating from Campus.

“He was excited about what comes next,” Wright said. “That was hard for me and everyone else to think about that, that (his life) got cut short because he was excited about moving on to the next thing.”

Squire legacy will live on at Campus. His coaches and classmates said he’ll forever serve as an inspiration to all who knew him.

“Just to live every day to the fullest. It is exactly what he did playing or just supporting the girls or boys teams. He was always that positive person and I think a lot of people take that away,” Campus High School photographer Laura Nicholas said.

There is a GoFundMe fundraiser set up to help Squire’ family with funeral expenses.
