WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: Family and friends of Kahleb Engram have confirmed the 17-year-old’s death following a shooting early Wednesday morning.

Police said around 3:30 a.m., the teenager was sitting in a vehicle near Countryside and Old Manor when someone walked up and fired several times into the vehicle.

Kahleb suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. A second person was in the car but did not get hurt.

Wichita police said the shooting was not random and called it a “choreographed, plotted” incident. No arrests have been made.

“They walked up on them. This wasn’t some random act. This was some choreographed, plotted thing that happened,” Wichita Police Captain Kevin Kochenderfer said.

Hours after Kahleb was shot multiple times,, family, friends and neighbors spoke about the teen as they took a closer look at where the shooting happened.

“He was a good dude. He really bothered nobody,” neighbor Travis Warner said.

A handful of neighbors said they didn’t hear the gunshots early Wednesday morning, but later in the morning, learned what happened.

“(I) came outside to walk the dog and I saw the yellow tape and stuff. So, I walked over here and found out it was him,” Warner said. “It’s terrible, messed up.”

The early-Wednesday-morning shooting is the eight in Wichita in five days. The spike in violent crime is causing some to worry for themselves and others.

“I’m worried about everybody’s safety out here,” Warner said.

Wichita Police are investigating a shooting that left one person in “extremely critical” condition near Countryside and Old Manor in southeast Wichita.

Police said the person who was injured was sitting in a car when the shooting happened and had multiple gunshot wounds. A second person was also in the car, but they were not injured.

“They walked up on him, this wasn’t a random act. This was a choreographed, plotted thing that happened,” Captain Kevin Kochenderfer said.

Neighbors reported that they heard 10-15 gunshots, which struck several vehicles in the area. No arrests have been made.
