Woman dies in Barton County crash involving combine
BARTON COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) - A woman died Saturday in a crash about four miles southwest of Great Bend, near Dundee, Kansas.
The Barton County Sheriff’s Office said around 10:45 a.m., deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of SW. 60th Ave. and SW. 30th Rd. Both roads are County blacktop highways.
The sheriff’s office said a 2016 case IH combine was westbound on SW. 30th Road, approaching the intersection. The combine did not have a header at the time of the collision. A 2017 Ford Escape driven by Ronald Heine, 75 of Great Bend, was northbound on 60 Avenue.
Deputies said Heine failed to stop at the stop sign, driving into the intersection and striking the front of the combine. The Ford Escape rolled one time before coming to rest on its wheels. Heine and his passenger, 71-year-old Wanda Heine, suffered serious injuries in the crash. Both were taken to KU Medical Center at Great Bend. Wanda Heine died from her injuries at the hospital. The combine operator was not hurt.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the crash,
