2 charged with murder in Wichita toddler’s shooting death
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Two men are charged in the death of a toddler who was shot and killed at an apartment complex near Pawnee and Oliver last Monday.
K’Veion Richard and Jonathan Tillery-Matthias appeared in Sedgwick County Court Monday afternoon. Both are charged with first-degree murder in the death of one-year-old Taidyn Anderson. Both are also charged with criminal discharge of a firearm.
Anderson’s mother said she was holding him when shots were fired into their unit at the Sugar Creek Apartments. Family members said the bullet struck them both. Her sister was also hit. Police said a man and two other children in the apartment were not hurt.
Richard and Tillery-Matthias are being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on a $1.5 million bond. Both are set to appear back in court on March 6 at 9:30 a.m.
A detention hearing was held Monday afternoon for a 17-year-old arrested in the case. He was ordered to be held in the detention facility until his first appearance on March 26 at 8:30 a.m.
