Kansas governor Laura Kelly, Rep. Sharice Davids endorse Kamala Harris
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Kansas governor Laura Kelly became the latest in a string of politicians to endorse vice president Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential candidacy after president Joe Biden suspended his re-election campaign on Sunday.
Kelly cited Harris’ time as a California prosecutor and Harris’ pro-choice stance as reasons for the endorsement.
“From her time as a prosecutor getting violent criminals off the streets to serving as a U.S. Senator fighting to protect reproductive freedom to traveling across the country delivering for the American people as Vice President, Kamala Harris has always done what’s best for American families,” Kelly wrote in a post on X.
Kelly joins a list of governors endorsing Harris that includes Wes Moore (Maryland), Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan), J.B. Pritzker (Illinois) and Andy Beshear (Kentucky). Democrats will officially choose a nominee to oppose Donald Trump next month.
Kansas Representative Sharice Davids, the only Kansas Democrat in Congress, also endorsed Harris in a social media statement on Monday morning.
She wrote: “The choice in this presidential election is clear. Kamala Harris will fight MAGA extremism, protect our reproductive rights, and defend our democracy. Most importantly, uniting behind her gives us the best chance to prevent another term for Donald Trump.”
