Man critically injured in N. Wichita shooting, suspect hospitalized

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update 5 p.m.: A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting.

The Wichita Police Department said that when the suspect was arrested, he was in possession of a gun. He ingested an unknown substance in a small bag as officers were attempting to detain him.

The suspect was transported to the hospital after ingesting the substance, and on the way to the hospital, he became unresponsive. He remains in critical condition.

The 51-year-old shooting victim is expected to survive.

Wichita police are working to determine what led up to a shooting in a neighborhood on the city’s north side in which a 51-year-old man was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

Early in the investigation, police believe this was a targeted, isolated incident and that there isn’t a threat to the public as they work to identify the person who shot the man.

The shooting was reported a little after 7 a.m. on Tuesday in the 2300 block of North Jackson. This is in a neighborhood a little north and east of 21st and Arkansas.
