KWCH-12 Eyewitness News
Cassie Wilson comes to KWCH with a decade of weather and climate experience. Before starting her career in broadcast meteorology, Cassie worked as a research scientist in the Nevada State Climate Office while completing her Ph.D. coursework at the University of Nevada. She is a proud Jayhawk and graduated from KU with her B.S. and M.S. in Atmospheric Science with a focus in Hydrology. Prior to joining the KWCH Storm Team 12, Cassie was the first woman to hold the title of Chief Meteorologist in northern Nevada.
Originally from a small town in western New York, Cassie Wilson has always loved the outdoors and science. But it took 6 changes to her major at KU before that passion for the environment found its home in the world of weather and climate. Her passion ultimately lies in finding ways to connect weather to the world around her.
Cassie is an American Meteorological Society Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. She has presented her scientific work at the international level, co-authored publications in top peer-reviewed journals and is an EMMY award-winning meteorologist.
While forecasting in tornado alley is fascinating, Cassie considers becoming a mother amidst a global pandemic her greatest and most challenging adventure yet. Cassie is happily married and in her free time, she stays busy balancing motherhood and meteorology. Cassie also enjoys practicing yoga and is a registered yoga teacher. She also has spent time as an adviser for Delta Delta Delta and believes in the power that a women's organization has on building up young leaders, promoting scholarship, and self-sacrifice through service.
