Jake Dunne arrives at KWCH with over two decades of forecasting experience. He has battled blizzards in Colorado and Wyoming, tracked tornadoes in Iowa and Michigan, and worked endless hours in hurricane coverage in South Carolina, Florida, and Alabama. However, Jake’s journey began at KWCH as a weather intern and then weather producer under the tutelage of Merril Teller and Mark Larson.
Before crisscrossing the country for his television career, Jake received a Bachelor’s Degree in Geosciences from Mississippi State. Several years later, Jake returned to the classroom and earned a Master of Science Degree in Applied Meteorology, also from Mississippi State. In addition to winning awards, Jake’s forecasts have also earned the AMS Seal of Approval.
Jake was born and raised in Wichita and is thrilled to return home. Growing up in Kansas, where the weather changes on a whim, is what sparked his interest in meteorology at an early age. Jake remembers tracking the daily high temperature by riding his bike to the local bank during the late afternoon and writing down the digital temperature display.
Jake is happily married to his best friend Holly and they are the proud parents of two active teenagers. When he’s not working or spending time with his family, you’ll likely see Jake at the movies or, when the weather cooperates, outside enjoying the day. Jake is an avid runner and loves to participate in 5K’s, 10K’s, and half-marathons.
