Born and raised in the City of Trees (Boise, Idaho) he’s thrilled to call Kansas home now.

From the Treasure State to the Sunflower State!

Ty joined our KWCH Eyewitness News Morning Team from Great Falls, Montana where he was an evening anchor.

There, he was part of a team who helped launch Montana’s first statewide newscast, ‘Montana Right Now.’

Born and raised in the City of Trees (Boise, Idaho) he’s thrilled to call Kansas home now.

“Wichita has everything you want in a city. It reminds me of a bigger Boise, and really is a hidden gem,” he said.

Ty’s excited to get active in the community and meet new people, so he can help share the stories impacting Kansans.

Ty studied Mass Communication and Journalism at Boise State University where he was a Ronald E. McNair Research Fellow.

Then, it was on to graduate school at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, where he earned his M.A. in Specialized Journalism and was an Annenberg Fellow. Fight On!

Outside of storytelling and connecting with people, Ty likes getting outside, working out, reading and some occasional mindless reality television. He’s also a huge sports fan, looking forward to going to the big high school game of the week.

You might also see him walking his French Bulldog, Ruby, who he adopted in Towanda on his way into Wichita.

Ty is also a member of the National Association of Journalists (NABJ).

If you have any story ideas or just want to shoot the breeze, feel free to send him an email to thawkins@kwch.com
