Man hit by train, killed in Sumner County

SUMNER COUNTY, Kan. UPDATE--9:30 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 27) The Sumner County Sheriff's Office confirms the investigation has ruled the man's death as a suicide.


The Sumner County Sheriff's Office confirms one man is dead after he was hit by a train Thursday evening.

The collision was reported on East 90th North and North Hillside, west of Belle Plaine. Police say a man was walking along the tracks when he was hit by the train.

Railroad officials and law enforcement are on the scene investigating to determine why the man was on the tracks. Officials say the train will remain stalled as the investigation continues.

The intersections where the track meets Highway 55 and Hillside remained closed during the investigation.
