Pregnant TN mom carries dying baby to term to donate organs
A Tennessee woman learned early in her pregnancy there was no chance her baby would live beyond a few hours.
Doctors told 23-year-old Krysta Davis that her child's brain and skull had not completely formed which would eventually lead to its death.
Krysta was given two choices. Doctors could induce labor immediately or she could carry the child to full term, give birth, and then donate its organs.
She decided to carry her child to term "to give other babies a second chance at life."
“We decided that even if we couldn’t bring our daughter home, no mother would have to go through what we were going to go through,” Davis told People Magazine.
Krysta named her baby girl Rylei. Her daughter was born on Christmas Eve and passed away on New Year's Eve.
Rylei's two heart valves and her lungs were donated to be used for research and development, according to WTVC-TV.
