Wichita mother charged in death of 2-year-old son

WICHITA, Kan. A 23-year-old Wichita mother faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old son.

The official charge against Kimberly Compass came Tuesday, approaching three months since her son, Zayden Jaynesahkluah, was found dead at a motel on South Broadway in Wichita.

Around 9:45 a.m.May 31, officers responded to an assist EMS call at the Sunset Motel in the 2300 block of South Broadway, regarding Jaynesahkluah not breathing. They arrived and pronounced the child dead on the scene.

Police last week arrested Compass for felony murder.

Her bond is set at $500,000 and she's next scheduled to appear in court early next month.

Compass says she tried to help her son after waking up May 31 to find him deathly ill. She's denied accusations that she's responsible for his death.
