Explosion, fire extensively damage S. Wichita home, 1 hurt
Wichita Fire Department crews Friday afternoon responded to an explosion and fire at a home in south Wichita.
The department says what likely was a natural gas explosion left the man living at the home hurt with injuries they say are non-life-threatening.
It happened a little after 2 p.m. near Market and Shady Side (near 44th Street South).
Footage from a doorbell camera on a neighborhood home shows what appears to be flames burst from the house, followed by thick smoke.
Early Friday evening, Wichita Fire Marshal Stuart Bevis reports crews having control of the situation and that there is no danger for anyone else in the neighborhood.
Crews were confronted with a single family dwelling that suffered structural damage from a possible explosion today at 44th and Market. Numerous emergency traffic requests were called for hazards on the fire scene. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. #WichitaFD pic.twitter.com/bIPas6ya1O— WichitaFireDept (@WichitaFireDept) May 15, 2020
