1 injured, 2 arrested after S. Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kan. Wichita police arrest two people in connection with a Tuesday evening shooting reported about 5:45 p.m. in south Wichita. One person suffered minor injuries.

Police took John Murphy into custody after they say he opened fire on a car full of people, including two small children and the children's mother, Arienna Harwood.

Officers arrested Harwood on suspicion of child endangerment, battery and theft.

It started with police response to a call of a disturbance involving a weapon in the 1700 block of South Glenn. As officers responded to that scene, police say they learned about a secondary incident at Harry and McLean.

When officers arrived on that scene, police say they contacted a person injured with a gunshot wound. An ambulance took that person to a local hospital for treatment to the injury police say is minor.
