Man killed in crash west of Wichita identified

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office has identified the man killed in a crash west of Wichita as 41-year-old Brian R. Maddux of Augusta.

Authorities say the collision is still under investigation, but Maddux was driving eastbound on MacArthur when he crossed the center line and struck a westbound dump truck. The 37-year-old driver of the dump truck suffered minor injuries.

A man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a near head-on collision in Sedgwick County, west of Wichita.

It happened shortly after 1:20 p.m. in the 13900 block of W. MacArthur.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said a white dump truck was westbound and a grey Nissan pickup was eastbound on MacArthur.

For an unknown reason, the Nissan crossed the center line and struck the dump truck nearly head on. The pickup ended up in the ditch and caught fire. The fire was soon put was put out.

The sheriff's office said the driver of the Nissan was found next to the pickup. First responders tried to render aid, but the man died from his injuries on the scene.

A 37-year-old Eureka man was driving the dump truck for a local company. He was treated for minor injuries on the scene.

MacArthur remained closed for several hours between 135th and 151st Streets. The streets were reopened by 9 p.m. Wednesday.
