WICHITA, Kan. The route to and from work for many in north Wichita got more direct with the reopening of a busy intersection. Monday (May 13), Wichita Public Works confirms 45th and Hillside is open, a couple days earlier than a projection late last week that the reopening would happen by the middle of this week.
The south and east legs of the intersection closed in early March for the $2.5 million project's final phase. Funding for the project that began last year, came from the city and federal and state grants administered through the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The city said road and traffic improvements to the 45th and Hillside intersection provided left-and-right-turn lanes in all directions and constructed a new traffic signal. The final phase that lasted about two months widened both roads at the railroad tracks and constructed new railroad crossing signals.
