Group's journey to Dodge City precedes Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

DODGE CITY, Kan. Thousands of worshippers in Dodge City Tuesday honored the Virgin Mary during the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Among them was a group who walked and ran about 155 miles (from Wichita back to Dodge City) in order to pay tribute. The group includes 53 people from Dodge City who traveled to Wichita Saturday to walk and run Sunday back to Dodge City.

The journey was part of the Our Lady of Guadalupe race, which has become an annual event ahead of the celebration. For many Latinos Our Lady of Guadalupe (the Virgin Mary) is a powerful symbol of devotion and identity.

Our Lady of Guadalupe devoter Pablo Landa has been participating in the Our Lady of Guadalupe race from Wichita to Dodge City for eight years.

"I promised the Virgin Mary that I was going to, as long as I live, I was going to be doing this," Landa says.
