GREENWOOD COUNTY, Kan. As of Tuesday morning (Dec. 4), almost one week after a teen boy with special needs was found unaccompanied at a rest stop near Beaumont in Greenwood County, the boy remained in protective custody.
Tuesday afternoon, a police-protective-custody hearing for the boy took place in Greenwood County. The results of that hearing weren't disclosed, but we do know a decision was to be made on whether to keep the teen in protective custody or to place him with a family member.
Greenwood County Heath Samuels says his office is in contact with the teen's family. The sheriff's office is also working to track down witnesses who may have seen who was with the boy on the morning he was found at the rest stop.
