A bittersweet night for friends of baby Sophia
With Baby Sophia’s return, friends said it was a bittersweet night because they still miss Sophia’s mother, Laura Abarca-Nogueda.
“I don’t think there will be closure, but they take comfort in knowing that she has a child that she’s left in this world and that a piece of her will always live through her and her family,” said Laura’s friend, Priscilla Harris.
Friday night, family and friends gathered outside the apartment where Nogueda was shot and killed. Minister Odell Harris Jr. prayed with the family, and he believes that helped in Sophia's return.
“It’s not a shadow of a doubt in my mind that God answered our prayers this morning,” Odell said.
Friends of Laura said they hope to see her positive spirit through her daughter, who they said looks just like Laura.
“I would love to be in her life just to be around her, her spirit, the fact that she has a part of Laura in her,” Priscilla said. “I think that is all everyone is wanting is to be able to be around this child who was made with such love.
Priscilla said she still cannot believe Laura is gone because she was loved by everyone and did not deserve to die the way she did.
