Affidavit details events leading to kidnapping arrest at W. Wichita motel

A probable cause affidavit details events leading to the arrest of a registered sex offender in connection with a reported kidnapping May 5 at a west Wichita motel.

Daniel Withrow, a convicted sex offender, formally faces charges of kidnapping and attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

This stemmed from an abduction call at the White Glove Inn at 11430 W. Kellogg. An 8-year-old girl told officers she was playing hide and seek with her cousin when Withrow approached them after waving at them from behind nearby trees.

The affidavit reports the girl told police that Withrow told her and her cousin that if they were trying to hide, they should split up. And when they did, Withrow put his hand over the girl's mouth and told her, 'don't say anything.''

The affidavit says the girl reported Withrow then took the girl into a shed against her will, but the girl was able to run away.

Withrow denied touching the girl anywhere other than her mouth and holding her by the shoulder. He said he did not move the girl into the shed.

Withrow says he grabbed the girl because he was afraid that she was going to tell someone that she saw him urinating.
