An alert was issued for Cedrick Jackson after he was reported missing Wednesday morning from his home.

On Thursday, police confirmed the boy's body had been found and 27-year-old Sedrick Johnson was arrested for serious bodily injury to a child - a felony.

"This is not the outcome we had hoped for and we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family," said police on Twitter.

KHOU reports that Johnson is the boyfriend of Cedric's aunt.

They say the boy had been living in the family's home since May 21, and that Johnson began swaddling the boy tightly after he made a mess with a ketchup packet

According to the Houston CBS-affiliate, Johnson told detectives Cedric started making noise in the middle of the night. When he woke up, the boy threw up and Johnson said he tried to perform CPR.

Court documents state he injured the child "by compressing his airways."
