ARK CITY, Kan. The Arkansas City Police Department says it arrested an Arkansas City man Tuesday in connection with the rape and sexual abuse of two local children.
Police arrested Aureliano Pablo-Matias, 22, on suspicion of two counts of rape and one count of identity theft, all of which are felonies, the Ark City PD says.
At 8:45 p.m. Monday, (July 8), police say officers responded to an address in northwest Arkansas City for a report of sexual abuse of a child. They contacted the family of a 10-year-old girl identified as a victim in this case.
Police took the child to a Winfield hospital for a forensic examination. The next day, they say the girl identified a man she knows as the suspect in this case.
"A second victim, aged 12, also came forward and was interviewed," police say. "the second victim identified the same suspect, later identified as Pablo-Matias. Officers located and arrested him later that same day. Additionally, investigators learned Pable-Matias allegedly was using a false identity to work at an Arkansas City business.
Also this week, Arkansas City police identify a man in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl. The police department filed charges against 19-year-old Dakota Alan Gaskill, of Arkansas City on June 28.
They say accusations against Gaskill include one count of rape, two counts of rape of a child younger than 18 years old and two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy. These crimes are felonies.
Police say officers previously arrested Gaskill on June 24 on suspicion of burglary and a misdemeanor count each of criminal damage to property and theft. The June 24 arrest concerns a June 22 burglary at the Paris Park Pool in Ark City, police say. They say two others were involved with that crime.
