An Arkansas City man was arrested this week on suspicion of child abuse. Nineteen-year-old Austin Joe Warford was arrested Wednesday.

Earlier this week, police responded to South Central Kansas Medical Center fora a report of an infant with a broken leg. They learned a 24-day-old infant had suffered a spiral fracture to the leg.

The child was transported to a Wichita hospital for more specialized care. The infant was also placed into protective custody.

Police say they conducted several interviews and determined the infant was hurt while in the care of Warford, who is the child's mother's boyfriend.

Warford was booked into the Cowley County Jail, where he remains in custody. His bond is set at $4,000.
