WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Ascension Via Christi Health is now offering virtual doctor visits.
Virtual doctor visits allow patients and their families to video chat with their care team from home. They're available 24/7.
If you wake up with a head cold, sinus infection or cough, you can make the call from home and a doctor will evaluate your symptoms. Doctors can even call in prescriptions.
Ascension Online Care costs $49 per visit and doesn't require insurance. Anyone living anywhere in the country can use it.
These online visits are designed to save people time- no appointments and waiting rooms necessary.
Ascension Medical Group in Wichita says especially with flu season arriving soon, people should consider virtual doctor visits.
"So for those who's illnesses are mild, and doesn't necessarily need an actual physical visit. This may give them a chance to receive the care that they need without the exposure to those other bugs in the community," said Philip Newlin, Pediatrician, Ascension Medical Group.
Ascension Via Christi says this is the future of healthcare. Doctors say especially for patients in rural areas, these video chats could be used to cut down on travel time and post-operation appointments.
