OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - UPDATE -- 7:15 p.m.: Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City has resumed operations after being closed for several hours following a fatal shooting.

UPDATE: Oklahoma City CBS affiliate, KWTV News 9 reports the suspect in Tuesday afternoon's fatal shooting at the Roy Rogers World Airport was found dead in a pickup in a parking garage.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A Southwest Airlines employee was shot and killed at Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers World Airport on Tuesday.

Oklahoma City Police identify the employee as Michael Winchester. Kansas City's KCTV-5 reports Winchester is the father of Kansas City Chiefs long snapper, James Winchester.

Authorities closed the airport and asked people inside the building to shelter in place.

Tuesday afternoon, Southwest Airlines released the following statement.

It is with great sorrow that Southwest Airlines confirms that a Southwest Employee who was injured during a shooting incident today at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City has died from injuries. We continue to work with the local authorities investigating this incident. As a result of the police investigation, local flight operations have been halted. We’re working to accommodate Customers still in the airport when it was locked down as well as cancelling flights departing from Oklahoma City for the remainder of the day. The Southwest Airlines Family is deeply saddened by the passing of our Southwest Family Member, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies and support to his family and Southwest co-workers at this time.

Oklahoma City Police Capt. Paco Balderrama said police have confirmed one victim in the shooting and received reports of a possible second victim, but authorities have not yet found that person.

All streets are blocked off and people should avoid the airport, Balderrama said.

Airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said all operations are suspended.

“There are going to be some delays for flights until we have further information,” Carney said, while referring other questions to police.

Carney said in addition to Southwest, American, Delta, United and Alaska airlines each have terminals at the airport on the city’s southwest side, and 7,000 to 8,000 travelers pass through the facility daily.

Eisenhower National Airport Director Victor White says the shooting in Oklahoma City has no effect on flights at Wichita's airport. He says TSA and the FAA had advised the possibility of flights being diverted to Wichita while Will Rogers World Airport is closed.
