Kelly Clarkson, Dierks Bentley, and Metallica are a few of the names slated for Intrust Bank Arena this week. But on Monday, the arena announced Grammy-award winning rapper, Cardi B, is coming to the Air Capital.
The big names have people in Wichita talking.
"I didn't think it was serious that they were talking about Cardi B. Everybody loves Cardi B! She's hilarious and definitely has her own views, but her coming here would be a trendsetter for sure," said Jason Isaacs.
Intrust Bank Arena is seeing the highest amount of gross ticket sales since 2015, General Manager A.J Boleski says SMG, the group that manages the arenas wants to bring in the acts people want to see.
"We're keeping tracks of ringtone downloads and album downloads, single downloads, CD sales all to see what people are interested in. That leads to conversations like, 'bring Cardi B to Wichita,'" added Boleski.
Big name acts like Cardi B bring revenue to the city as well. According to Visit Wichita, the city sees more than 6 million visitors a year which generates more than $1 billion dollars for the local economy.
Cynthia Wentworth is the Vice President of Marketing for Visit Wichita. She says the city sells itself.
"We knew all along that we could host great big concerts like Cardi B and the NCAA. But being able to show that to people on the outside of Wichita, what we knew all along. Wichita is a great place to market an event, to see a concert, to go to a festival. It just helps when everyone sees what Wichita has to offer," said Wentworth.
Cardi B will make her Wichita debut at Intrust Bank Arena on July 24. She'll be joined by Kevin Gates and Saweetie.
