Bail set at $5M for parents charged in Crystal Lake boy's death
A judge sets the bond for the parents accused of killing Andrew "AJ" Freund at $5M bond in court Thursday morning.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Joanne Cunningham appeared first followed by Andrew Freund Sr. in the McHenry County Jail.
The report says a prosecutor alleges that Freund forced AJ into a cold shower for an extended period of time and beat him.
The boy's parents are charged with five counts of first-degree murder. Other charges include aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery and one count of failure to report a missing child death.
Cunningham and Freund reported AJ missing a week ago and investigators used sonar and canine units to search the area for the boy.
On Wednesday, detectives confronted the parents with cellphone data evidence, which led investigators to the boy's body in a "makeshift grave" near a farm access road in rural Woodstock.
Cunningham and Freund Sr. would have to pay 10 percent of the $5M bond. They're in the McHenry County Jail.
