WICHITA, Kan. A groundbreaking ceremony Monday at Botanica celebrated an historic addition to the community gardens' home.
Botanica will house the restored Joyland merry-go-round. The carousel operated at the Joyland amusement park from 1949 until 2004. The park's owner, Margaret Nelson Spear, donated the ride in 2014.
"It's gonna mean the legacy of carrying on the happiness that was at Joyland here at Botanica, and we're so proud and humble that this happened," says Botanica Executive Director Marty Miller. "This is a family place. This is where families come to make memories."
Botanica's goal is for the pavilion's completion to happen next June with a grand opening next September.
