WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) The busiest week of the holiday season is here for the United States Postal Service.
Officials expect mail carriers across the country to deliver 200 million packages between Dec. 17 and the 23, according to a news release.
The postal service said it expects to deliver 900 million packages between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. That's a 10 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
"Every year we’ve seen about a seven to ten percent increase. For the past six or seven years, that has just steadily increased," said Wichita Postmaster Ryan Knopik. "It hasn’t stopped but we are prepared for it. We hire year-round to kind of prepare for this so we’re ready for it."
