In the wake of the winter storm that dumped 4-12" of snow across northern and western Kansas Saturday, cloudy skies and cold temperatures will remain in place across the state today. Freezing dense fog across western Kansas will lift by mid-morning and mostly cloudy to cloudy skies will persist. Highs will only reach the upper 20s and low 30s statewide. Clouds hang around tonight with fog possible in areas with snow on the ground. Lows will drop into the teens and low 20s. After morning clouds Monday, the sun will return and temperatures will warm into the upper 30s and 40s.
Temperatures will continue to climb into the upper 40s and lower 50s on Tuesday. Seasonable temperatures with highs in the 40s through Thursday, then another winter storm takes aim on Kansas for Friday. A wintry mix is expected to develop across southern Kansas with snow spreading across the north. Arctic air will accompany this next weather system with gusty winds and bitter cold wind chills Friday into next weekend. Highs will be in the teens and 20s, with below zero wind chills possible.
