Coffeyville man held without bond for suspected homicide

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (KWCH) The Coffeyville Police Department is investigating a possible homicide after responding to home Saturday and finding a 71-year-old man unconscious.

According to a post on the department's Facebook page, police were called to the 900 block of W 9th St. Saturday around 7:00 p.m. for a report of a battery.

When officers arrived, they found 71-year-old Steven L. Lucas of Coffeyville unconscious.

Lucas was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Now police are investigating the incident as a homicde and they identified Ralph Hayward, 47 of Coffeyville, as a person of interest. Hayward is currently being held in the Coffeyville Jail without bond.

Police say there are no other suspects at large and no threat to the public.
