WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Dozens of people gathered at Schweiter Park on Sunday for 'Worship in the Park' hosted by Heart of Christ Church.
Pastor Ronda Kingwood says she's wanted to do the event for a couple years.
"It's something that I've been wanting to do for a couple years and when I became Senior Pastor of Heart of Christ, I just decided it's time to do it," Kingwood said. "So I started putting it together and started planning last year."
She says the event is a way for church members to go out in the community and leave the building.
"God calls us to go out into the world, go out and compel those to come in. So we wanted to leave the building and do what we call as a pop-up worship," Kingwood said.
She says it's important for the church to engage their neighbors.
"I think it shows that we are a church that is not afraid to come out into the community," Kingwood said. "We are not just behind the four walls, but we want to come out and know our neighbors. We want to meet the needs of our neighbors."
The event featured members of the church singing praise and worship songs together. She says the church will do the event again if God calls them to do so.
