Cooler Spring weather this weekend

A strong low pressure system moved across Kansas overnight and is now moving across Missouri this morning. This weather system produced large hail (1.50" - near Smith Center, KS) and gusty winds (60 m.p.h. near Glade, KS) across extreme northern Kansas and parts of southern Nebraska. Record high temperatures also occurred in western Kansas with new records established in Garden City, Dodge City and Goodland. Highs reached the upper 80s and low 90s.

As this weather system heads east, cooler air from the north will spread across the region today. Clouds will dominate much of central and eastern Kansas during the morning, with sunshine returning by afternoon. Highs will reach the 50s and 60s, feeling more like spring. North winds will add a bite to the cooler air too. Clouds will begin to increase tonight as the next weather system approaches from the west. Overnight lows will drop into the 30s and low 40s.

A few spotty showers are possible for central and eastern Kansas on Sunday, however the better chances of rain and storms develop Sunday night and Monday as a warm front moves across the region. This system will be slower moving, when compared to last night's storm, meaning better chances of showers and storms Sunday night through Tuesday morning. Generally, rainfall amounts will range from 0.10 to 0.50" through Tuesday, with the potential for locally heavier rainfall east of the Kansas Turnpike. Severe storms are not expected at this time. Temperatures will remain in the 50s and 60s on Sunday with a few 70s in the southwest. Warmer on Monday with highs in the 60s and 70s, then cooler weather settles in on Tuesday and Wednesday. Another slight chance of rain on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, otherwise it will be dry with temperatures warming into the upper 60s and 70s by the weekend. Easter Sunday looks dry and breezy with morning lows in the 40s and afternoon highs in the 60s and 70s.
