Crime victims to be honored at upcoming holiday remembrance receptions

TOPEKA, Kan. (KWCH) Crime victims will be honored at different holiday remembrance receptions across the state.

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced his office partnered with the Kansas Organization for Victim Assistance to host receptions in Garden City, Wichita, Kansas City, and Topeka.

“The holiday season can be a difficult time for the families of crime victims,” Schmidt said. “These receptions provide families an opportunity to come together and honor their memories and share support and encouragement.”

Friends and family members of crime victims are invited to attend and to bring an ornament for an Angel Tree in honor of their loved ones.

The schedule for the receptions is as follows:

• Garden City
Time: Dec. 3 (1:00–3:00 p.m.)
Location: First Assembly of God Church Hall (702 Campus Dr.)

• Wichita
Time: Dec. 5 (1:00–3:00 p.m.)
Location: Newman University, Dugan-Gorges Conference Center (3100 W. McCormick St.)

• Kansas City
Time: Dec. 11 (1:00–3:00 p.m.)
Location: Memorial Hall Ballroom (600 N. 7th St. Trafficway)

• Washburn University (Topeka)
Time: Dec. 13 (1:00–3:00 p.m.)
Location: Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center, Convocation Hall (1701 SW Jewell Ave.)

The Victims Services Division of the Attorney General’s Office is charged with coordinating statewide victim rights efforts and administering grants and education programs. The division also provides a Kansas crime victims’ rights hotline at (800) 828-9745.
