Thirty six tankers that were supposed to come to McConnell Air Force base are delayed.

Bloomburg reports from Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson that Boeing will miss its Oct. 27 deadline to hand the new tankers over.

The report says this latest setback is due to delayed certification from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Wilson says she met with Boeing Wednesday to discuss the future of the KC-46 project and says issues are getting fixed.

This is not the first delay associated with the project. Delivery of the first tankers to McConnell was supposed to have happened in 2016. Once the tankers do arrive, they'll replace KC-135 planes that have been in the Air Force for decades. In all, 179 new tankers will be delivered to McConnell as part of the project.
