A 19-year-old Emporia woman is okay after flood waters swept the car she was driving off the road.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says they were called to a field southeast of the intersection of Road J and Road 140 just after 3 a.m. Thursday.

Officials say when they arrived, they found Apryl Salender on top of her submerged 2003 Mazda 6.

Water rescue teams from the Emporia Fire Department and Lyon C. EMS arrived just before 4 a.m. and Salender was brought to safety a short time later.

Officials say Salender drove around a barricade and wasn't able to stop her vehicle before it was swept away by flood waters.

The Sheriff's Office said Salender was cited for driving around the barricade.
