Family reaches settlement in daughter's 2017 drowning

WICHITA, Kan. Eyewitness News Tuesday confirmed the family of an 11-year-old girl who drowned at a back-to-school party in 2017 has settled with the church that hosted the event.

The family of 11-year-old Shelby Cramb also reached a settlement with the owners of the property where she died. The family's attorney tells us the settlement was approved in October after all parties met for mediation.

Police ruled Shelby's death an accident.

Police responded to the home where the party was held on North Ridgeport after Shelby's parents arrived to pick her up, but could not find her. The report says police began a search on land around the home, but could not find the girl.

A diver with the Wichita Fire Department later discovered Shelby's body in the lake behind the home. The water in that lake was about 10 to 15 feet deep, police say.

Witnesses told police kids at the party were taking turns on tube rides behind a boat and they were swimming while waiting for their turn.
