Finney County Health Department warns public about STD scam

FINNEY COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) The Finney County Health Department is warning the public about the latest scam going around, but it doesn't involve money.

The health department says scammers are masking a number to make it look like it's coming from the agency.

The scammers then use a recording to "inform" people that they've been identified as possibly having a sexually transmitted disease or having contact with someone who has an STD.

The Finney County Health Department says the calls are "NOT FROM US!"

"We will always ask your permission to discuss sensitive health information over the phone, and we will always identify ourselves as employees of the Finney County Health Department," said the health department.

The agency says staff will leave a voicemail if the call is missed.
