Fire destroys trailer, RV on Kansas Turnpike

"We were just coming down the highway all of the sudden something went boom."

Daniel James says he was driving his RV on the Kansas Turnpike when something went wrong near Belle Plaine.

"I looked back to the front of the road again and looked back and there were flames shooting out of both sides of the motorhome."

James and his wife were on their way back to Oklahoma after a trip to Alaska. They weren't hurt, neither were their two dogs who were traveling with them.

He stopped as soon as he saw the fire. They then ran for the side of the road, clear of the fire.

"There was nothing we could do i thought about getting the fire extinguisher but by the time the whole back end was on fire two minutes max," James said.

That fire destroyed a trailer he was hauling as well as a smart car and two motorcycles that were inside.

Fire officials aren't sure what sparked the fire.
