Former Sedgwick pastor pleads not guilty to inappropriately touching teen

HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) A former Sedgwick County pastor pleaded not guilty to inappropriately touching girls in his church on Monday

During his arraignment, Kevin Berry entered his not guilty plea to one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child between 14 and 16 years old.

His trial was scheduled for the end of May.

Berry was the pastor at the First Christian Church of Sedgwick when he was arrested last July.

A complaint against Berry says the crimes happened in September of 2017. A 15-year-old girl reported she was inappropriately touched by Berry. She also reported that on numerous occasions in 2016 and 2017, Berry made her feel very uncomfortable.

Berry resigned from his position following his arrest.

Harvey County Attorney David Yoder says the charge carries a possible penalty of anywhere from three to 14 years in prison.

If Berry is found guilty, Yoder says he would likely be looking at the shorter sentence since he has no criminal history.
