Power restored for Goddard schools, other west Wichita customers

GODDARD, Kan. (KWCH) Update: Power has been restored to customers in Goddard and to most who lost it in west Wichita. According to the Westar Energy outage map, fewer than 50 customers remain without power in the area.

Several schools are without power Thursday morning after an outage hit the Goddard, west Wichita area.

Westar Energy says a substation issue caused the outage around 7 a.m. Initially, more then 3,600 people were affected but now its down to 450.

KFDI reports the Goddard School District sent an email to parents saying there’s no electricity at Amelia Earhart Elementary, Discovery Intermediate, Goddard Middle School, Goddard High School, or Goddard Academy. The district says school is still in session.

Westar says power is expected to be restored around 11 a.m.
