Hays schools cancel classes following damaging storm

HAYS, Kan. (KWCH) The Hays Unified School district canceled classes Tuesday after damaging storms moved through town.

Several parents sent us the following message they received from the district.

"Due to damage sustained at the middle school, USD 489 will cancel classes tomorrow, Wednesday, August 14th. The first day of school will be rescheduled to Thursday, August 15th, with elementary having a half day and midddle/high full day."

Tuesday's storms for the Kansas Department of Transportation to closed I-70 from Hays to Wakeeney through Ellis County. The storm also caused several semis to blow off I-70 and thousands were left without power.
