2 hurt in shooting near Hutchinson Walmart

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) Two people were shot near a Hutchinson Walmart Saturday night.

Officers responded just before 5:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting at 17th and Ring Road.

When officers arrived, they found a 54-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the lower body.

Through the investigation, police learned an argument took place between the victim and occupants of another car while they were both stopped in traffic on Ring Road just south of 17th Avenue.

Police say when the victim got out of the car, a rear seat passenger in the other vehicle identified as 20-year-old Deante Jones fired one shot, striking the victim. The bullet then went through the open door of the victim's car, ricocheted off the interior, and grazed the driver of the suspect's car, a 74-year-old woman.

Both victims were taken to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center where they were treated and released.

Investigators say Jones was arrested on two charges of aggravated battery. He is being held on a $20,000 bond.

The case is still under investigation.
