"I'm thankful to God:' 11-year-old boy headed home after being hit by semi in Garden City
A little more than a week after being hit by a semi in Garden City, an eleven-year-old boy is heading home.
Emilio Corrales is recovering at Wesley Medical Center after being hit Friday (August 23) just before 6 p.m. The Kansas Highway Patrol says Emilio was riding on a bike path and fell off. He was then hit by a semi traveling northbound on business 83.
"I'm thankful to God because I didn't die," said Corrales. "I thought I was gonna die, when I got hit by a semi truck."
But he didn't, the eleven-year-old was flown to Wesley Medical Center and has been recovering.
Corrales is an avid wrestler in Colorado, the Carroll Wrestling Club here in Wichita brought gifts and words of encouragement Sunday.
"This is an opportunity to do that and give back and hopefully cheer him up a little bit, send him off with a little bit of love," said Cody Denton, Carroll Wrestling Club.
Corrales also got another gift that he's been waiting for, the chance to go home.
"I've just been hurting and now that I'm getting to go home and I'm not as badly wounded, I just feel good," said Corrales.
All smiles, Corrales says he's also grateful for everyone's support.
"They prayed and believed in me and I'm just thankful for that," said Corrales. "I'm ready to go home, I'm happy I get to go home."
The family has set up a
to help with medical expenses.
