Judge halts deportation of asylum seekers during case

Washington D.C. A Federal Judge stopped a deportation in progress and ruled that the Trump Administration cannot deport immigrants while they are actively fighting to stay in the U.S.

D.C. Circuit Court Judge Emmet Sullivan was angry at reports that a plaintiff and her daughter were in the process of being deported while their case was still pending.

Sullivan issued an emergency order halting the deportation.

The plaintiff is part of a case filed recently by The American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of a dozen plaintiffs. The case challenges restrictions to immigration policy brought about by Attorney General Jeff Sessions which refuse asylum based on claims of domestic and gang violence.

Sullivan threatened to hold Sessions in contempt if the order wasn't followed.
