The Salina Police Department says an armed carjacking led to a police pursuit Tuesday evening.

Chief Brad Nelson said the carjacking happened around 5:12 p.m. at the Kwik Shop on Schilling Road.

Sixteen minutes later, a Salina police officer saw the stolen vehicle on Magnolia and tried to stop it. Nelson said the suspect backed up and rammed the officer on Magnolia and 9th Street. The officer's vehicle was disabled and the suspect left the scene in the stolen vehicle. The officer was not hurt.

Deputies from the Saline County Sheriffs Department spotted the vehicle at 5:32 p.m. and pursued it. Nelson says and the suspect fired multiple rounds at law enforcement during the pursuit.

At 5:59 p.m., the suspect crashed at the intersection of Whitmore and Country Club Road. Nelson says the suspect got out of the vehicle with a gun and a deputy and Salina officer fired their duty weapons.

The suspect was taken into custody at 5:59 p.m. then transported to Salina Regional Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

A deputy suffered minor injuries during the pursuit and was also taken to the hospital and was treated and released. No no one else was hurt.

Nelson did not identify the suspect.

He said the KBI will now investigate the officer-involved shooting.
