Kansan concerned for family in Venezuela as crisis escalates

At least 17 people are dead and millions more in the dark as an ongoing crisis continues in Venezuela. Power outages started Thursday in the nation where conditions worsen by the day.

Wichita State University student Ines Matute grew up in Venezuela, but moved to Kansas as a teenager. She says last week, she lost contact with family who still live in the South American country.

She says she fears for the worst, but hopes for a peaceful conclusion and her family's safety.

"It's scary that you're going to get the news that your family is dead. They didn't survive this," she says.
